Time Evolution of the Vertically Integrated Specific Humidity Distribution in Experiment S1380
Water vapor transport appears to be associated with disturbances that migrate and bring precipitation from the equator to high latitudes. In order to clarify water vapor transport due to the disturbances, the time evolution of the vertically averaged specific humidity in Experiment S1380 is presented below. The figure gives the impression that dry and moist air masses migrate from high and low latitudes, respectively, with the disturbances bringing precipitation.
Animation 1:Time evolution of vertically integrated specific humidity (kg/kg) in Experiment S1380. The animation illustrates the time evolution for a 16-day period in conditions that are considered to be nearly in equilibrium.
