Two kinds of visualization methods were used in this experiment.
The first method uses floaters to visualize the movement of water as in Plumb &
McEvan. Because the working fluid is a continuously stratified salt water, a floater will
halt at the level with equal density as itself. Therefore, the movement of water can be
visualized by putting the floaters with various densities
in the fluid.
In this experiment, the flow pattern is recorded with a video camera, and the velocity
of the mean flow is measured on a video monitor with a scale.
