2.3. Visualization of Multi-Composition Clouds

There are three species of condensed materials (H2O, NH4SH, and NH3) and three species of condensible volatiles (H2O, H2S, and NH3) in Jupiter's atmosphere (see Section 1). In order to present their distribution simultaneously, we employ a visualization technique which can be called an "RGB composite". The mixing ratios of H2O ice, NH4SH ice, and NH3 ice are represented using red, green, and blue color tones, respectively, and that of multiple composition cloud is represented by a superposed plot of the three colors (Fig. 2.4, top panels). The mixing ratios of H2O vapor, H2S vapor, and NH3 vapor are plotted in the same manner (Fig. 2.4, bottom panels). This technique reveals not only the amount of cloud and condensible volatiles but also their composition.
