コメント: Small amounts of polymers added to a Newtonian solvent introduce elastic effects, making the fluid a viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid. Elastic effects can modify the turbulent flow, and a new elastic regime appears at small scales. The present flow visualization shows a volume rendering of the vorticity magnitude of a turbulent viscoelastic round jet. The flow data were obtained from direct numerical simulations at moderate-high Reynolds number; the Oldroyd-B fluid model has been used to simulate the viscoelastic fluid.
